Bookended by visits to Henry Tate's mausoleum and the tomb of Lord Mayor Henry Tulse, Jay Bernard, the author of critically acclaimed poetry collection Surge goes for a six-mile walk across London, 'this city I love', to think about the meaning of complicity. We live in the legacy of colonialism. It permeates the very fabric of the social structures in which we exist. It visibly haunts the streets of London, anchored by statues and monuments that commemorate a violent imperial past. What does it mean, then, to love this city that was once the heart of an Empire?
Look Again is a series of short books from Tate Publishing, opening up the conversation about British art over the last 500 years, and exploring what art has to tell us about our lives today. Written by leading voices from the worlds of literature, art and culture, each book sheds new light on some of the most well-known, best-loved and thought-provoking artworks in the national collection, and asks us to look again.
About the author
Jay Bernard is an artist whose work is interdisciplinary, critical, queer and rooted in the archives. They were named The Sunday Times/ University of Warwick Young Writer of the Year (2020) and are the recipient of the Ted Hughes Award (2017) for Surge: Side A, a cross-disciplinary exploration of the New Cross Fire in 1981. Something Said (2017), an exploration of Black British history, has screened in the UK and internationally, including Aesthetica and Leeds International Film Festival - where it won best experimental and best queer short respectively – and CinemAfrica. Their body of work also includes Crystals of this Social Substance (Serpentine Pavilion 2021), Poet Slash Artist (Manchester International Festival, 2021), and Joint (Southbank Centre, 2022).

For made-to-order items, including framed custom prints, furniture, lighting and rugs, we aim to deliver within:
UK – 1-2 weeks
International – 2-4 weeks
Please note that some items are dispatched separately if they are made to order (such as coffee, custom prints and custom print clothing, neon lights or furniture). This means that if you order these items alongside other shop products, they won’t all arrive together, and you’ll get several deliveries.

We currently offer free standard delivery on UK orders over £60. Please note that this is offer is valid only online. Our other delivery costs are as follows.
For orders under £60:
UK – £3.60 per order
European Union – £15 per order
Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £28 per order
Limited editions
Due to the nature of our Limited Edition artworks, Tate offers rates for packaging materials to sufficiently protect the works and a fully insured, door-to-door courier service, for both UK and international shipping.
Rugs
Rugs are dispatched directly from the Christopher Farr workshop, so they will arrive separately from any other items ordered from Tate Shop.

Goldfinger + Tate furniture
As each item of furniture is made to order, delivery takes 12-14 weeks, and will arrive separately to any other items in your Tate Shop order.
Food & Wine
Our collection of food and wine is only available for delivery in the UK. We currently offer free delivery on wine orders over £100, using a specialist white glove service within the M25 area.
Wine: UK only – £20 per order
Please note that our wines can only be purchased by those aged 18 years and over. Customers will be asked to provide proof of age upon delivery.

Refunds & returns
Please contact our customer service team within 45 days if you need to return anything from your order. We will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, Goldfinger + Tate furniture, face coverings and pierced earrings. We cannot cover the cost of returning the items, unless we've made a mistake or they are faulty.
