Additional Information

On the deck of a ship (and in a rowing boat, in one case), Himid paints seven men. Of her works on canvas, Himid says that her men ‘fall in love with each other in front of you. They try to say what they mean to each other and attempt to begin to understand themselves by wearing whole outfits in combinations carefully chosen days before they put them on their bodies.’ She describes them as ‘pastry chefs’ – working hard on something to be admired and consumed by someone else.
