This piece is an example of Lubaina Himid’s work exploring colour, texture, and architecture. The title, Country House, means that the painting sits at odds with our expectations of such a building, as Himid creates a brightly coloured, curving structure, set against a vibrant lime ground. Writing on Architecture, Himid writes ‘What kind of buildings do women want to live and work in? Has anyone ever asked us?’.

Lubaina Himid was born in 1954 in Zanzibar, Tanzania but moved to England shortly after her birth. A Turner-prize winning artists, her paintings, prints, drawings and installations celebrate Black creativity and the people of the African diaspora whilst challenging institutional invisibility. The year after she won the Turner prize, she was made a CBE in the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to art. She is Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire.

As each print is handmade to order they take a little longer to prepare. We’ll dispatch your order as soon as it is ready, separately from any other items.
