Two nattily dressed men casually stand together in Lubaina Himid’s Remove from the Heat, 2019. The woven pattern elements that they wear are especially striking, an element that reoccurs in Himid’s work from this period. Clothes, like buildings, are a focal point for Himid, as she reinforces their importance, and questions their suitability. She writes: ‘Who is communicating with whom? Look at what they are wearing / What is the conversation? Read the colour and the pattern’.

Lubaina Himid was born in 1954 in Zanzibar, Tanzania but moved to England shortly after her birth. A Turner-prize winning artists, her paintings, prints, drawings and installations celebrate Black creativity and the people of the African diaspora whilst challenging institutional invisibility. The year after she won the Turner prize, she was made a CBE in the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to art. She is Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire.

As each print is handmade to order they take a little longer to prepare. We’ll dispatch your order as soon as it is ready, separately from any other items.
