Here, Lubaina Himid paints three architects at work. The architectural models they work with are interesting, brightly coloured structures, similar to Himid’s building paintings. Writing on Architecture, Himid asks ‘What kind of buildings do women want to live and work in? Has anyone ever asked us?’ She writes that she dreams of a place designed for sharing, with curved structures and spaces for reconnection and creativity. Is this what her architects are designing?

Lubaina Himid was born in 1954 in Zanzibar, Tanzania but moved to England shortly after her birth. A Turner-prize winning artists, her paintings, prints, drawings and installations celebrate Black creativity and the people of the African diaspora whilst challenging institutional invisibility. The year after she won the Turner prize, she was made a CBE in the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to art. She is Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire.
