Here, Kinley renders flowers on a table in his signature, bod style. The influence of Kinely’s interest in Egyptian wall art has been noted, as well as his desire to capture the ‘experience’ of an object - ‘I begin with a clear idea of what I intend to paint, but in trying to realize this idea in paint it may be necessary to change the image quite a lot.’

Peter Kinley ( 1926 - 1988)[1] was a Vienna-born British artist. Born Peter Nikolaus Arthur Eduard Schwarz, as a Jewish child in Vienna during WWII he was evacuated to England as part of the Kindertransport scheme. He later studied art at the Düsseldorf Academy and St Martin's School of Art, teaching at the latter from 1954 onwards. He was married to Monika Wolf, an artist, art dealer, curator and collector.
