Additional Information

British painter Rose Wylie’s works are tactile, cerebral, and humorous. Part of the Spotlight Series from David Zwirner Books, this book features Rose Wylie’s newest paintings and drawings, and was published on the occasion of the artist’s 2020 solo exhibition of these works at David Zwirner Hong Kong.

With text by art critic Michael Glover, the book explores Wylie’s use of eclectic source materials, and her witty observations and musings on memory and visual representation, through her paintings and drawings throughout her career.

Drawing influence from a wide range of popular culture, Rose Wylie’s newest body of work for 2020 references memories from her own life and mimics the way memories evolve and change over time.

Rose Wylie is a British artist, known best for her large scale paintings on un-primed canvas. Her subject matter is often drawn from popular culture. From film stars to sports figures, she describes the people she paints as ‘shared contemporary gods, outside of art and religion’. Her paintings explore her view of society’s obsession with style and self-image. Tate Britain hosted an exhibition of her work in 2013.

Michael Glover is a Sheffield-born, London-based art critic, editor and poet.
