Additional Information

Item details
Poster of Roy Lichtenstein’s Brushstroke 1965, created to coincide with Tate Liverpool’s 2017 Artist Rooms: Roy Lichtenstein in Focus exhibition.

Brushstroke is from a series of paintings Lichtenstein made during 1965-6 of enlarged brushstrokes, as a comment on the large strokes and loaded personal meanings of Abstract Expressionism. The actual brushstroke was taken from The Painting, a story in the comic book Strange Suspense Stories.

Roy Fox Lichtenstein (1923 – 1997) was an American pop artist. During the 1960s he became a leading figure in the new art movement, based on art through pastiche. His work was influenced by popular advertising and comic book styles. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting", which was reflected in his work methods.

Dimensions: 50 x 70 cm. Flat-bed digital printed on 150gsm silk paper.

Printed and produced in the UK.
